Conservation

Hopefully you will have had a look at the various bodies for whom we have been extremely fortunate to work, indeed such work is a great pleasure. We further hope that these recommendations will attest to the quality of our work. We believe the main asset for conservation is sensitivity; without this in abundance many works are spoiled. Sensitivity is closely followed by knowledge, both in technique and material.

Only by knowing how something is put together and of what it is made, can any hope of success be achieved. This aspect of our work is very important as we only ever use contemporary materials and, where possible, the original. For example, if a fox head falls from a wall and the clay that fills its nose is shattered and exits through a split in the skin, we grind down the clay, re-wet it and replace it back in the nose, thereby completely retaining the integrity of the piece, which has got to be better than using new clay.

We hold a large stock of antiquarian parts (eyes, wire, feathers, fur, etc.), so that even for specimens where parts are lost, we can conserve them using replacements as near contemporary as possible.  We also offer a re-colouring service, whereby the badly faded specimen can be made to look as much as possible how it once did. This, like all our procedures, is completely reversible.

I hope the above words will illustrate to you the quality of our work and convince you that you have found the only conservator you will ever need.
